Make your hair colour smell divine

Make your hair colour smell divine

If you have used our organic hair colours before, you will know the 'EARTHY' smell it brings. Our hair colours come from nature so they smell a bit different to your regular everyday hair colours (thank goodness). It is kind of a mix between cut grass, dried up bush leaves and earth.

I personally like the smell but I can understand that some people might not feel the same way. Here we look at ways you can change the smell of your organic hair colour and give you some tips to getting your locks smelling as good as they look & feel.

1. For a subtle change - Use the mixed spice sachet provided in your pack. This contains spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg & star anise. It will give your hair colour mix a subtle spice and leave you smelling like a yummy cake.

2. Power of essential oils - Add a few drops of essential oil to your mix. 1 to 3 drops will be enough to give your mix an extra kick fragrance

*Rosemary is herby and helps promote healthy hair growth. It is a circulation booster and a must have in your hair care routine.

*Lavender angustifolia is calming and good for relaxing the mind and healing for the scalp,

*Geranium is sweet and helps to balance hormones,

*Jasmine gives an amazing floral smell and has been used for centuries to fragrance the hair.

*Peppermint is cooling

***Please be aware of contraindications before using essential oils as they are strong and may not be suitable for everyone. If you suffer from health conditions or are pregnant please consult your doctor before using any essential oils. Essential oils are very potent and must be used in very small doses with respect and caution.

3. For a stronger scent - Substitute H2O for floral water in your mix.

*Rose water adds a beautiful fragrance and is suitable for sensitive scalps and all hair types.

*Orange Blossom water gives an uplifting scent and is suitable for all hair types.

*Lavender water is soothing and is suitable for sensitive skin.

TIPS: Make sure you buy a good quality floral water. Edible ones will be safe for your hair. You may want to dilute the floral water with H2O if the smell is too strong.

4. Use the floral water as a rinse after colouring.  - Simply dilute the floral water to your liking ( I use a ratio of 30% floral water to 70% H2O). After washing your paste out rinse the floral water through your hair once or twice wring out the excess ( do not rinse ). Towel dry & style as usual
