How to combine different shades together to achieve an individual colour

Desert Shadow has formulated 12 beautiful colours but you can also create your own by mixing the different shades together. We have broken down the method of doing this below to help simplify the process and make it easier to do.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO CONSIDER:

1. Have a journal or diary handy so you can write down your special formula. This will help you remember the mix and make sure you can recreate that same tone again and again.

2. Mixing the colours together will give you a completely different shade. As an example adding Deep Red to Chocolate will create a red brown tone. Depending how much you add of each will determine how dark or red the colour will be. Adding Red to Honey will make it a red colour and will no longer be anything close to Honey.

3. If you are unsure start slow and make sure you DO A STRAND TEST.

4. Follow instructions of each product before mixing together

Brown + Brown

( Brown tones include - Caramel, Chestnut, Honey, Walnut, Chocolate & Deep Chestnut)

How to mix:

Mix each product separately as per instructions before combining them together.

Example:

Chestnut + Honey

  1. Activate Chestnut STEP1 in a bowl.
  2. Activate Honey STEP1 in a separate bowl.
  3. Leave for time specified on instructions to activate (see temperature/time chart).
  4. Activate Chestnut STEP2 in a bowl.
  5. Activate Honey STEP2 in a separate bowl * You will have 4 bowls.
  6. Once all mixes are activated combine them together and mix well so you can see that the paste has an even colour.

Brown + Red

( Brown tones include - Caramel, Chestnut, Honey, Walnut, Chocolate & Deep Chestnut)

( Red tones include - Strawberry, Copper, Red & Deep Red)

How to mix:

Mix each product separately as per instructions before combining them together.

Example:

Caramel + Copper

  1. Activate Caramel STEP1 in a bowl.
  2. Leave for time specified on instructions to activate (see temperature/time chart).
  3. Activate Caramel STEP2 in a separate bowl.
  4. Then immediately activate the Copper in a separate bowl * You will have 3 bowls.
  5. Once all mixes are activated combine them together and mix well so you can see that the paste has an even colour.

Red + Red

( Red tone includes - Strawberry, Copper, Red & Deep Red)

How to mix:

Mix the powders together before adding liquid.

Example:

Strawberry + Red

  1. Add both powders to a bowl and stir gently to combine.
  2. Add liquid (see instructions for amount).
  3. Mix well and ensure the paste has an even, uniform colour. Try your hardest to avoid lumps.
