If you have used our organic hair colours before, you will know that 'EARTHY' smell that it brings. Our hair colours come from nature so they smell a bit different to your regular everyday hair colours (thank goodness). It is kind of a mix between cut grass, dried up bush leaves and earth. I personally like the smell but I can understand that some people might not feel the same. Don't worry we can help you get that shiny natural hair colour and disguise the smell. Here are some tips to getting your locks smelling as good as they look & feel.
Use the mixed spice sachet provided in your pack. This contains spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg & star anise. It will leave you smelling like a spice cake.
Use a floral water to mix your hair colour paste. Rose water adds a beautiful fragrance and is suitable for sensitive skin. Make sure you buy a good quailty one. You may want to dilute it with water if the rose smell is too rosy!
you can also use the floral water as a rinse after colouring. Simply dilute the floral water to your liking ( I use a ratio of 30% floral water to 70% H2O), rinse through your hair once or twice and towel dry.
Add a few drops of essential oil to your mix. 2 to 5 drops will be enough to give your mix an extra sweet fragrance *Lavender angustifolia is good for relaxing, *Geranium is sweet and helps to balance hormones, *Rosemary helps promote healthy hair growth. *Jasmine gives an amazing smell and has been used for centuries to fragrance the hair. Please be aware of contraindications before using essential oils they are strong and may not be suitable for everyone. (see more info at bottom of post)
So there we go!
You can be an alchemist at home with your organic hair colour. All you need can be found in your kitchen cupboard at the local market or your local organic store.
What do you use to enhance the smell of your hair?
* If you suffer from health conditions or are pregnant please consult your doctor before using any essential oils. Essential oils are very potent and must be used in very small doeses with respect and caution.
