Colouring grey hair with Indigo Shadow

Silver hairs are inevitable, they are a part of our bodies cycle and have their reason for being with us. What ever we decide to do with our greys is up to us! Some of us will embrace them by letting them stay as they are and others will embrace them with colour.

If your natural hair colour was dark or black and you would like to cover your greys with the same or similar tone there are a couple of things you can do.

1. You can use a 2 step application process combining the use of a Red Shadow base colour and then applying your Indigo Shadow to create a blue black colour.

or

2. You can use a lighter colour to highlight the silver strands and give them a shimmer without covering them completely.

Today we are going to look at option number 1

If you would like to colour your silver strands with our Indigo Shadow to get that darker raven black tone you will need to first colour your greys with a base colour of red.

Why you ask? Red creates a good solid base and prevents your hair from taking on too much of the Indigo blue tone. If you are looking for a blue rinse then don't worry about the base colour. However, if you would like to steer away from that here is how we do it.

FIRST STEP You will need your red base colour. We recommend you use either the Red Shadow or Copper Shadow from our Hair colour range.

  1. Mix the colour as per instructions and apply to your hair.

  2. You only need to wait 10 mins for activation so, you should mix and use this colour straight away.

  3. Apply the colour to your full length of hair or roots only (if you don't need full length coverage).

  4. Cover and leave in your hair to work its magic for 1 to 2 hours.

  5. Rinse and towel dry your hair. Your hair will be a vibrant red colour but don't worry this will be covered up with the next application.

Your hair colour will be vibrant like this:

But don't worry because the Indigo Shadow will cover this and give you a blue black final result.

You are now ready to apply the Indigo Shadow.

You can choose to do this straight away or you can do it within the next 24 to 48 hours

**Super tip! did you mix too much and now you still have leftovers? Well .... you can pop it in a zip lock bag or container (use one you won't mind if it gets a little colour stained) and pop it in the freezer. It will last for a few months in there and will only take 30mins to defrost.

SECOND STEP Once you have applied your red base colour. You will now need your Indigo Shadow from our Hair colour range.

  1. Mix the Indigo colour as per instructions and apply to your hair. Be sure to cover all red sections.

  2. You only need to wait 15 mins for activation so, you should mix and use this colour straight away.

  3. Apply the colour to your full length of hair or roots only (if you don't need full length coverage).

  4. Cover and leave in your hair to work its magic for 1.5 to 2 hours.

  5. Rinse, wash, dry and style!

**Super tip! did you mix too much and now you still have leftovers? Unfortunately the Indigo Shadow can not be saved once mixed. So best to try and estimate how much you will need. The first time using it you can mix the whole pack and by seeing whats left over you will know roughly how much you will need for next time. you could also mix half and then if you need more more more as you go along - I just find it easier not to have to stop and mix halfway through application.

After 72 hours the full colour result will be seen after oxidization as taken place and run its full course.

** read and follow instructions provided in your hair colour product.
